Georgia Psychology Licensure Requirements

Georgia does not publish its own numeric cut score. Board Rule 510-2-.01(1)(g)1 states the Board accepts "the standard passing score set by ASPPB" for the EPPP, which is the ASPPB-recommended scaled score of 500. Georgia requires BOTH parts of the two-part EPPP: Part 1 (Knowledge) and Part 2 (Skills). Applicants licensed elsewhere on or after November 1, 2020 must also have passed both parts to qualify by endorsement.

Pre-doctoral: an APA/CPA-accredited or APPIC-member internship of at least 2,000 hours (a non-accredited internship must also total 2,000 hours, include at least 500 hours of direct client contact, and be completed in 11-24 months). Post-doctoral: 1,500 hours of Supervised Work Experience (SWE) completed in no less than 11 and no more than 24 months after the doctorate, including at least 500 hours of client/patient involvement, logged weekly and co-signed by the supervisor, with at least one hour of individual supervision for every 30 hours of SWE. Both are required, so the practical total is 3,500 hours. An APA-accredited or APPIC-member formal postdoctoral fellowship of 1,500 hours satisfies the SWE without a log.

Required

Georgia Psychology Jurisprudence Examination - a timed, closed-book, computer-based multiple-choice exam prepared by the Georgia Board and administered by PSI, covering current Georgia law, rules and regulations, and general provisions. The published content outline totals 50 scored items (Assessment 6, Competence 9, Professional Relationships 14, Licensure and Regulations 13, Privacy and Confidentiality 5, Recordkeeping and Fees 3). A scaled score of 70 is required to pass; candidates who fail must wait 30 days before retesting.

Fee: $85

Taken after the national EPPP and before/while completing the postdoctoral SWE. Georgia also requires a THIRD exam that most states do not: a Board oral examination based on a work sample generated within the six months before the exam. The oral exam is scheduled after all written exams are passed and within 2 months of completing the SWE; failing a subcommittee oral leads to a Full Board oral, and failing two Full Board orals results in denial of licensure. The $85 fee is from the Board-posted PSI Candidate Information Bulletin; that bulletin lists an older Board address, so confirm the current fee with PSI at registration.

1. Earn a doctoral degree in applied psychology from a program accredited by the APA or CPA at the time the degree was conferred (I/O and international applicants are evaluated under separate criteria).
2. Complete an APA/CPA-accredited or APPIC-member predoctoral internship of at least 2,000 hours.
3. File the Application Initiation Form with the Georgia Board with the application fee, register for the required fingerprint criminal background check, then complete the ASPPB PLUS application that ASPPB sends you.
4. After the Board approves you as a licensure candidate, take and pass both parts of the national EPPP - Part 1 (Knowledge) and Part 2 (Skills) - at ASPPB's standard passing score.
5. Pass the Georgia Jurisprudence Examination through PSI with a scaled score of 70.
6. Complete 1,500 hours of postdoctoral Supervised Work Experience over 11 to 24 months, documented on weekly logs co-signed by your supervisor (a non-renewable provisional license is available during this period).
7. Appear before a Board subcommittee for the oral examination on a work sample within two months of finishing the SWE; the license is issued once you pass the oral exam and the SWE is complete.

PSYPACT member

Georgia grants licensure by endorsement (Chapter 510-3) to psychologists licensed in other jurisdictions under four alternatives: (a) licensed under 10 years - the other jurisdiction's standards must be no lower than Georgia's, the applicant must have met the EPPP standard passing score (both EPPP parts if originally licensed on or after November 1, 2020), and must have completed a postdoctoral SWE or its equivalent (equivalent = three years of full-time practice of at least 30 hours/week for 50 weeks/year in an organized setting, or licensure elsewhere for at least five years); (b) senior psychologist licensed 10+ years in a U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction; (c) doctoral-level I/O psychologists with five years of practice and three references; (d) holders of the ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ), who are deemed to have met all licensure requirements. Every endorsement route still requires passing the Georgia Jurisprudence Examination and the Georgia Board oral examination. A temporary license (up to 12 months) is available to endorsement applicants who have passed the EPPP and the jurisprudence exam and are eligible to sit for the oral exam. Georgia participates in PSYPACT: to practice temporary in-person face-to-face psychology under PSYPACT authority a psychologist must hold a valid ASPPB Interjurisdictional Practice Certificate (IPC) and a Temporary Authorization to Practice (TAP) from the PSYPACT Commission, renewed annually, and may practice up to 30 days per calendar year. Separately, the Board grants 'Permission for Limited Practice' of up to 30 days per calendar year to out-of-state doctoral licensees who notify the Board at least 5 days in advance.
