CPBAO has adopted the ASPPB-recommended passing score of a scaled score of 500 (scale 200-800). The EPPP is required by O. Reg. 193/23 s. 5(1) para. 3. Ontario has NOT moved to EPPP Part 1 only; nothing on the College site references EPPP Part 2 / EPPP(2). Note that the EPPP is only one of THREE examinations: candidates must also pass the College's own Jurisprudence and Ethics Examination (JEE) and an Oral Examination before a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice is issued. Candidates may not attempt the EPPP more than four times in any 12-month period.

postDoc: O. Reg. 193/23 s. 5(1) para. 2 requires 'a minimum of 1,500 hours of postdoctoral supervised practice', which the College's guidelines gloss as 1500 hours / 12 months, performed in Ontario while holding a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Supervised Practice, under two College supervisors (a Primary and an Alternate). The supervised member normally must work at least 15 hours per week; the supervised-practice certificate may not be issued for more than two years total. preDoc: the 1500-hour figure is a CPBAO guideline CRITERION used to judge whether a non-CPA-accredited doctoral program is 'equivalent' to a CPA-accredited one (it also requires practicum training of at least 600 hours, incl. 300 direct client-contact and 150 supervision hours). Graduates of CPA-accredited programs are accepted on accreditation alone and no separate predoctoral hour figure is stated for them, and O. Reg. 193/23 itself states no predoctoral hour number. Treat preDoc 1500 as the equivalency benchmark, not a universally stated statutory minimum. total left null because the College does not publish a combined figure.

Required

Jurisprudence and Ethics Examination (JEE): a 60-item multiple-choice examination administered by the College itself as an online proctored exam twice a year (Spring and Fall), covering legislation, regulations, standards, guidelines and codes of ethics applicable to the practice of psychology in Ontario. Criterion-referenced; the cut score is set per administration by a modified Angoff procedure plus one standard error of measurement (so there is no fixed published passpoint). Available in English or French.

Fee: CAD $200

Required by O. Reg. 193/23 s. 5(1) para. 5 for autonomous practice. It is NOT waived for Canadian labour-mobility applicants: s. 6(1) deems those applicants to have met paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 of s. 5(1) - paragraph 5 (the JEE) is deliberately omitted. Separately, Ontario ALSO requires an Oral Examination (s. 5(1) para. 4), held twice a year in about June and December, one hour, before a three-member examining team, covering readiness for autonomous practice including formulating and communicating a diagnosis; fee CAD $550. Cancellation of a JEE sitting within 5 business days incurs a CAD $60 cancellation fee.

1. Earn a doctoral degree in psychology from a CPA-accredited program, or from a program a panel of the Registration Committee finds equivalent or substantially similar (O. Reg. 193/23 s. 5(1) para. 1).
2. Line up an Ontario employment setting plus a Primary and an Alternate supervisor who are autonomous-practice members of the College, and apply for a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Supervised Practice (CAD $230); optionally file an eligibility review first to get your credentials assessed before you have a job.
3. Complete a minimum of 1,500 hours (about 12 months) of postdoctoral supervised practice in Ontario under that certificate, normally working at least 15 hours a week, with the certificate valid no more than two years.
4. Pass the EPPP with an ASPPB scaled score of at least 500, attempting it within a year of the supervised-practice certificate being issued.
5. Pass the College's Jurisprudence and Ethics Examination (CAD $200), the 60-item online proctored exam on Ontario law and ethics offered each Spring and Fall.
6. Pass the Oral Examination (CAD $550) in June or December, with both supervisors rating you ready for autonomous practice on the final Work Appraisal Form.
7. Receive your Certificate of Registration Authorizing Autonomous Practice from the Registrar and pay the CAD $1,200 annual fee.

Not eligible — U.S. compact

PSYPACT does not apply in Canada - it is a US interstate compact and Ontario is not a party; CPBAO publishes no PSYPACT route. Interprovincial mobility runs through Canadian labour-mobility law (the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, implemented in Ontario via s. 22.18 of the Health Professions Procedural Code). O. Reg. 193/23 s. 6(1) deems a labour-mobility applicant to have met s. 5(1) paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 - degree, 1,500 postdoctoral hours, EPPP, oral exam and further training - but NOT paragraph 5, so a psychologist already fully registered in another Canadian province or territory must still pass Ontario's Jurisprudence and Ethics Examination. Applicants must also show they are in good standing in every jurisdiction where they hold an out-of-province certificate. Applicants who want to practise before passing the JEE can request a Certificate of Registration Authorizing Interim Autonomous Practice, valid up to twelve months. Under the 'As of Right' route (application form plus As of Right Attestation and a CAD $100 fee), an applicant already fully registered in another Canadian province or territory may begin practising while physically in Ontario as soon as the application is submitted, and must obtain the certificate within six months; as of January 1, 2026 only fully (not provisionally) registered practitioners may use this route. Practitioners currently licensed in the USA use a separate Interim Autonomous Practice application route (which involves a Registration Interview, CAD $500) rather than the Canadian labour-mobility route.
