A minimum scaled score of 500 on the EPPP, obtained in no more than four attempts, is required by section 4(1)(a) of the Psychologists Act General Regulations for entry to the Register of Psychologists and the Register of Psychological Associates. The regulation refers simply to the 'Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology'; the Board's own Applications page states the requirement as EPPP Part 1. Candidates on the Candidate registers must have written the EPPP before the end of their 12th month of registration and must have achieved 500 (in no more than four attempts) before the end of their 24th month.

Psychologist (doctoral) route. The regulations set two separate pre-degree figures rather than one: a doctoral practicum of at least 600 hours and a doctoral internship of at least 1,700 hours; preDoc (2300) is the sum of those two verbatim figures, and total (4000) is preDoc plus the 1,700 post-doctoral hours. The 1,700 post-doctoral supervised-practice hours are normally completed while registered on the Psychologist Candidate register. Separate, lower figures apply to the master's-level Psychological Associate route: at least 300 hours graduate practicum, at least 850 hours graduate internship, and at least 3,400 hours of post-graduate supervised practice. Regulation 3(5) lets the Board accept equivalent supervised practice where the minimum practicum or internship hours are not met, and 3(6) provides that such substituted practice is in addition to the minimum post-degree supervised-practice hours.

Required

An examination on ethical guidelines, standards of practice and the jurisprudence of the province, administered by the Board or its designate. The regulations permit an oral or written examination; the Board's Applications page describes it as an oral examination / interview. It is also required of Canada Free Trade Agreement fast-track and CPQ fast-track applicants.

No separate fee for the oral examination is published by the Board; leaving fee null.

1. Earn a doctoral degree in psychology from a Board-approved program at a Board-approved institution - at least three academic years of full-time graduate study, including at least one continuous academic year of full-time in-person residency at the granting university, and not completed primarily at a distance.
2. Complete the Board's compulsory course requirements and the pre-degree practical training: a doctoral practicum of at least 600 hours and a doctoral internship of at least 1,700 hours.
3. Apply to the Register of Psychologist Candidates using the Psychologist Candidate Application Form with the CAD $575 application fee, then pay the CAD $685 annual registration fee once approved.
4. Complete at least 1,700 hours of Board-approved supervised post-degree practice under an approved supervisor, with six-month supervisor reports and a final evaluation; note that a Psychologist Candidate may not operate an independent private practice.
5. Pass the EPPP with a minimum scaled score of 500 in no more than four attempts - written by the end of the 12th month on the Candidate register and passed by the end of the 24th month.
6. Sit and pass the Board's oral examination on ethics, standards of practice and PEI jurisprudence; supervision continues until every registration requirement is met.
7. Move to the Register of Psychologists - applicants coming directly from the Board's Candidate register pay the CAD $685 annual registration fee, while applicants not coming from that register submit the Psychologist Application Form with the CAD $575 application fee.

Not eligible — U.S. compact

PSYPACT does not apply in Canada. PEI recognises labour mobility under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement: a person already registered for the independent practice of psychology in another Canadian jurisdiction may submit the Board's abbreviated Canada Free Trade Agreement form with a CAD $575 application fee and, on successful completion, is eligible to sit the Board's oral ethics, standards and local jurisprudence interview. Section 13(3.1) of the Psychologists Act deems an applicant holding extra-provincial certification that the Board considers substantially equivalent to have met the degree, compulsory-course, supervised-practice and examination requirements, and section 19(1.1) bars the Board from imposing terms and conditions on a registrant that would contravene PEI's Labour Mobility Act. Holders of the ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ) may fast-track using the CPQ Abbreviated Application Form plus the CAD $575 fee, again followed by the oral jurisprudence exam. Internationally educated applicants (trained outside Canada or the USA) begin through the ACPRO portal, which compiles and authenticates identity, education, registration, language-proficiency and criminal-record documents before forwarding the package to the PEIPRB for the CAD $575 evaluation. For cross-border practice, PEI is one of eight Canadian jurisdictions that require some form of registration by out-of-province psychologists serving PEI residents; it issues a Limited Telepsychology Practice authorization under the ACPRO Memorandum of Understanding (in effect 1 April 2024) for defined categories of practice, and telepsychology outside those categories requires a full CFTA application.
